Description:

  • Design and build a bridge

Members:

  • Work in pairs. Set time limit.

Current Tasks:

  1. Make contest rules: 0.5" deflection=failure
  2. Use flat piece (roadway)

Preparation Information:

  • Bridge will need to span a 12" distance
  • No materials other than those provided may be used
  • Plan carefully so you don't run out of materials before your bridge is finished
  • Test your bridge by pressing on it to find the weak spots. Then reinforce those weak spots and test again.

Materials Needed and Cost Estimates:

  • Balsa wood: ordered and received. Cost $50
  • Carpenters or white glue: $15
  • Wax paper
